Woodland Maintenance Operative

About the role

A hands-on role supporting the ecological management and upkeep of the woodland environment, ensuring safe access and thriving habitats for wildlife and visitors alike.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance tasks across the woodlands.
  • Path clearance, repair and maintenance.
  • Tree felling and log splitting.
  • Fencing repair and installation.
  • Support ecological and community activities as required.

Essential requirements

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Proven forestry experience.

Desirable qualifications

  • Tractor and trailer operation.
  • Brushcutter.
  • Chainsaw.
  • Winch and forestry trailers.
  • DBS check.
  • Forestry First Aid qualification.

Community Woodland Manager

Salary
£40,000 per annum

About the role

A hands-on leadership role supporting ecological management, safe access, community engagement and the long-term sustainability and growth of the woodland.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out forestry maintenance tasks across the woodlands.
  • Facilitate implementation of the Ecological Management Plan.
  • Undertake tree felling and log splitting.
  • Apply for, implement and review grant applications.
  • Develop income potential and long-term sustainability of the woodland.
  • Manage day-to-day operations and maintenance.
  • Coordinate events, community activity days and volunteering sessions.
  • Work flexibly, including weekends and evenings.
  • Work with children and vulnerable people.
  • Collaborate with the Sirhowy Hill Woodlands CIC Board of Directors.

Essential requirements

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Proven forestry experience.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.
  • Ability to work unsocial hours when needed.

Desirable qualifications

  • Tractor and trailer operation.
  • Brush cutter.
  • Chainsaw.
  • Winch and forestry trailers.
  • Knowledge of grant processes.
  • Experience managing teams of volunteers.
  • Forestry First Aid qualification.
  • Safeguarding Young People and Adults certification.
