The hedgehog is the most easily one of the most recognised of British mammals yet they are steadily disappearing from the wild.

 

Hedgehog’s are widespread, from Britain and rest of Europe, except the far north, across to Russia. Absent from most Scottish islands. Introduced to New Zealand.

Hedgehogs eat invertebrates such as caterpillars, beetles, millipedes and worms.

Different species of hedgehog live in different habitats such as deserts, grassland and woodland.

Although, some species prefer urban areas such as parks, gardens and farms.
